Six-week online therapy group

Binge Eating Recovery Group

Focused support to improve your relationship with food and overcome binge eating.

Binge eating can be difficult to change, even when someone is already in therapy.

In individual therapy, binge eating may be one concern among many, leaving limited time for focused learning, practice, and support. At the other end of the spectrum, intensive treatment can require someone to organize much of their life around care.

This six-week group fills the space between those options. It offers focused, consistent support without the demands of a higher level of care.

What the group focuses on

At the center of the program is learning how to stay with urges, cravings, emotions, and other difficult experiences without needing to fight them, escape them, or automatically act on them.

Binge eating does not have the same cause for everyone. The group helps participants understand what may be contributing to their own experience, including food restriction, learned habits, emotional coping, and patterns connected to particular situations or times of day.

Participants will practice skills that can change how they respond over time while helping them better understand what is maintaining the pattern.

Participants will learn and practice ways to:

  • Understand what may be increasing cravings and loss of control around food
  • Recognize habitual and emotional patterns
  • Respond differently to an urge while it is happening
  • Move through difficult experiences without relying on distraction or willpower alone
  • Interrupt the guilt, shame, and “I already ruined it” spiral
  • Begin again at any point in the process

Benefits of the group

Binge eating can feel isolating and shameful. Connecting with others who share similar struggles can help participants feel understood and less alone.

The group offers a place to learn and practice skills together, receive support, and begin changing long-held beliefs about food, weight, and themselves.

Meeting twice a week helps participants bring these skills into everyday life. One session focuses on learning and practice. The other provides a chance to check in, recognize progress, receive support, and work through challenges as they happen.

Information for referral partners

This group may be helpful for adults experiencing binge eating, loss of control around food, or a recurring restrict-binge cycle who would benefit from more focused and consistent support.

The program can complement individual therapy, medical care, or nutrition care. It is not a weight-loss program and is not a replacement for a higher level of care when one is needed.

Past participant feedback

I feel like I might actually get a handle on my BED after this program. Which is tremendous to even just THINK like that. Things I learned made so much sense and I have been able to take actionable steps towards stopping binge eating.

I love the format of the program, the fact that it offers both a weekly setting to learn new concepts and coping strategies in a structured way, and that it separately offers a safe space for open reflection and support from peers who are also struggling with the same issues.

I think I've grown a lot. I have learned to be more curious, mindful and less judgmental in my relationship toward food, and that's been very helpful. I feel like I have made a lot of progress and have a lot more tools I can turn to in the future that will continue to help me in recovery.

Individual experiences vary. Participation in the group does not guarantee a particular outcome or the end of binge eating within six weeks.
